Five steps to specify your run

Build details
Systems have been in service for decades, and the failure points are always the same few: poor busbar contact, water ingress at the door seal, high temperature rise in the correction cabinet, and mis-phased outgoing feeders. The six hard rules below are written for exactly these points — every cabinet can be traced to them.
Sloped roof prevents water pooling
The roof is sloped so water runs off instead of sitting. A flat-roof cabinet pools water in heavy rain, and over time the seal fails and water gets in.
Raised off the ground at the base
The bottom of the enclosure is raised or fitted with a base, keeping it 200–300 mm off the ground. Ground moisture, standing water and splash never reach the bottom of the box directly.
Fully sealed door seams and cable glands
Door gaskets plus cable glands for incoming and outgoing lines — that is what makes IP65/66 real. On outdoor boxes, the vast majority of water entry points are the door seams and the cable entries.
Anti-condensation heating inside the enclosure
In outdoor environments with large day-night temperature swings, an anti-condensation heater is installed inside the enclosure. Condensation is harder to prevent than rain — it forms out of the air itself.
Weather-resistant outdoor coating
Carbon steel enclosures use an outdoor weather-resistant coating that resists sun and rain without fading or chalking. Standard indoor paint starts peeling within one to two years outdoors.
Rain test performed
Before shipment, rain / spray testing is carried out according to the ingress protection rating — it does not stop at printing an IP number on the label.

What is the difference between IP65 and IP66?
Both are water- and dust-tight. IP66 has a higher water protection rating than IP65 and withstands stronger water jets. Simple way to remember: IP65 protects against low-pressure water jets, IP66 against powerful water jets. For ordinary outdoor rain, IP65 is enough; for coastal areas or high-washdown environments, IP66 is recommended.
Does an outdoor box get condensation? How do you prevent it?
Yes — when day-night temperature swings are large, moisture in the air inside the enclosure condenses. We prevent this with an internal heater or anti-condensation treatment, and where necessary a ventilation design to balance temperature and humidity. Condensation is a hidden cause of outdoor box failures and is harder to notice than water ingress.
How do I choose between carbon steel and stainless steel?
For ordinary outdoor environments, carbon steel with an outdoor weather-resistant coating offers the best value; for coastal, chemical or damp corrosive environments, choose stainless steel. If the budget allows and the environment is harsh, going straight to stainless steel saves trouble.
Should the base be raised?
Yes, raising it is recommended. Keep it 200–300 mm off the ground to prevent ground moisture and standing water from reaching the bottom of the box. A floor-standing design with a base is best; for wall-mounted units, install as high as possible.
Can you make street lighting controls?
Yes. Outdoor distribution boxes can be fitted with photocell and timer controls for circuit control of road lighting. Send us the control method and number of circuits, and we will configure a solution.
What do you need for a quote?
Material, ingress protection rating, mounting method, application and control method, number of circuits, operating environment. Drawings are best; without them, we will propose a solution based on application and circuit count.
