Metering boxes

Every kilowatt-hour on the books — start by counting them right
Model GU-MB · 1–12 positions · single-phase / three-phase · MOQ 1 unit
The meter box puts meters, CTs and branch protection into a single enclosure, solving sub-metering for leased factories, dormitories, shops and EV charging stations: 1–12 single-phase or three-phase meter positions, CTs on high-current circuits (meter reading × ratio), a viewing window for reading without opening the enclosure, and sealing points reserved for the utility or property manager. We build the box and the secondary circuits; meter selection, testing and sealing are handled by the utility or owner per local requirements — we state this division of responsibility plainly, neither claiming more nor leaving it vague.
  • Meter positions: 1–12, single-phase / three-phase, mixed layouts available
  • CTs: fitted on high-current circuits, 5 A / 1 A secondary, dedicated wiring route
  • Reading: door-mounted viewing window for reading without opening; RS485 interface reserved for remote reading
  • Sealing: separate sealing points for meter positions and wiring compartment, clear responsibility
  • Branch protection: a breaker downstream of each meter, so overload and short circuit are isolated per circuit

Build details

Systems have been in service for decades, and the failure points are always the same few: poor busbar contact, water ingress at the door seal, high temperature rise in the correction cabinet, and mis-phased outgoing feeders. The six hard rules below are written for exactly these points — every cabinet can be traced to them.

Compartment separation

Separate metering and wiring compartments

The metering compartment and the wiring compartment are physically separated, each with its own door seal and lead-seal points: meters stay with meters, wiring stays with wiring. When the utility or property management seals the meters, they do not touch our wiring — responsibility is clear.

Color-coded secondary wiring

CT wiring in dedicated runs

CT secondary wiring is color-coded yellow/green/red in dedicated wire ducts, with polarity and ratio verified unit by unit. The secondary side is never left open — an open circuit produces dangerous high voltage. This is an iron rule.

Viewing window

Read meters without opening the box

Transparent PC window covers all meter positions, so meters can be read without opening the door; the window and door seal are one piece, so dust and moisture protection is not sacrificed.

Meter positions match room numbers

Meter position equals room number

Meter positions, downstream breakers and outgoing cable labels are numbered to match rooms / shop units one to one. Labels ship with the unit, so billing reconciliation needs no guesswork.

CT ratio ships with the unit

CT ratios documented

The CT ratio for every circuit is written into the ratio table shipped with the unit and affixed inside the enclosure door. When meters are replaced or verified, it is read straight off the sheet — no reliance on memory.

Heat dissipation for multiple positions

Air channels for dense meter positions

12-position dense meter layouts leave top and bottom ventilation channels, so a fully loaded box does not run hot in summer and electronic meters do not drift at high temperature.

05 — APPLICATIONS

Where these cabinets go

These are the routine applications — we can talk scheme and configuration directly. For the industry view, see the industry pages.

Leased factories and industrial parks

One meter per factory for tenant-level metering, with common-area loads listed separately.

Dormitories and apartments

Dense single-phase multi-position metering, with meter reading clear at a glance.

Shops and markets

Mixed single-phase and three-phase meter positions, configurable even for complex tenant mixes.

EV charging sites

Metering and feeder outlets in one enclosure — the metering point moves upstream.

Agricultural irrigation metering

Outdoor per-unit metering, one meter and one card per well.

Internal energy accounting

Sub-metering by workshop or process, so cost allocation has a basis.

08 — FAQ

Six questions procurement and electrical engineers ask most

Do you supply the meters?

We do not supply the meter itself by default — meters under utility jurisdiction are configured, verified and sealed by the power supply department; internal accounting meters can be purchased by the owner (we cut the openings to the meter's dimensions) or bought on your behalf. We handle the enclosure, CTs, secondary circuits and downstream protection, with responsibilities written into the contract.

Direct-connect or CT-operated — how do I choose?

For loop currents ≤60 A, use a direct-connect meter (5(60)A type); above 60 A or for high-current three-phase, use CT-operated metering (meter reading × CT ratio). The dividing line is the meter's rating, and we size it directly from the loop current.

How is the CT ratio determined?

Size the primary at 1.2–1.5 times the loop's maximum operating current, so normal load falls within the meter's accuracy band (30%–100% of rated current). Too large a ratio under-reads day-to-day; too small risks overload — send us the current list for each loop and we will recommend a ratio circuit by circuit.

Can it connect to remote meter reading?

An RS485 bus and collector mounting position are reserved; meters with a 485 port (supplied by the owner or the utility) are plug-and-play, and carrier-based reading gets a cable pass-through. The remote reading platform is generally provided by the meter manufacturer or the property manager; we make sure this section inside the enclosure is properly wired and ready to connect.

How large a multi-position box for rental units?

By meter positions and circuits: 12-position single-phase is typically 800×1200 mm; add common-area circuits or three-phase and go up one size. Send us the unit count and single/three-phase requirements and we will produce a layout drawing.

Will outdoor installation let water in?

Outdoor type with rain hood, double-door gasket and bottom cable glands, IP54 as standard; upgrade to IP65 for typhoon-prone or high-rainfall regions. A moisture-breathing valve at the bottom of the enclosure equalizes the temperature differential and condensation.
