IK10 impact-resistant enclosures

Enclosures in public spaces have to stand up to people first
Model GU-EN-IK · IK10 (20 J) impact design · 2.0 mm reinforced door · three-point lock · MOQ 1 unit
IK10 is the highest rating for external mechanical impact protection (IEC 62262 / GB/T 20138): after a 5 kg hammer is dropped from 0.4 m and delivers 20 J of impact energy, protection and safety are not compromised. For street EV charging stations, bus stops, sports venues and open plant areas — anywhere the enclosure sits in a crowd — vandalism is a bigger concern than weather. We build IK10 into the structure: 2.0 mm reinforced door with internal stiffening ribs, a recessed three-point interlocking lock, and internal hinge pins. Test reports are provided per project requirements.

Build details

Systems have been in service for decades, and the failure points are always the same few: poor busbar contact, water ingress at the door seal, high temperature rise in the correction cabinet, and mis-phased outgoing feeders. The six hard rules below are written for exactly these points — every cabinet can be traced to them.

Reinforcing rib liner

IK10 comes from structure, not plate thickness

2.0 mm door panel + vertical reinforcing rib liner — impact energy disperses along the ribs. Simply stacking plate thickness to 3 mm is dead weight; the rib structure is the real answer to 20 J.

Door opens after impact

Still serviceable after a hit

IK10 acceptance is not just about surviving the strike: after a 20 J impact, the door must still open normally and the lock must still function. A cabinet that cannot be opened after one impact is a dead cabinet no matter how high its protection rating.

Internal hinge pin

No removable pin on the outside

The hinge pin is internal — nothing removable can be reached from outside the cabinet. An exposed pin can be knocked out with one strike, and the door comes off.

Anti-drill lock cylinder shield

The keyhole is not the weak point

The lock cylinder bore is lined with a hardened anti-drill shield, and the cylinder sits deep. Three-point compression leaves a pry bar no fulcrum. The lock position is always the first point of attack on a cabinet — that is where material matters most.

Anti-tamper ventilation

Nothing can be pushed in

Concealed bottom ventilation + anti-tamper mesh. In public locations, objects pushed into a cabinet cause more damage (short circuit and fire) than a forced door.

08 — FAQ

Six questions procurement and electrical engineers ask most

What does IK10 actually mean?

The highest class of external mechanical impact protection under IEC 62262 / GB/T 20138: a 5 kg striker dropped from 0.4 m delivers 20 J of impact energy to the enclosure surface, and protection and safety performance must not fail. In plain terms: hit it with a hammer and the cabinet keeps working.

Can a cabinet be IK10 and IP65 at the same time?

Yes. IK covers impact resistance and IP covers dust and water ingress — two independent ratings. Public outdoor installations usually need both, with the structure and test plan set by the project specification.

Do you have an IK10 certificate?

We design and deliver to the IK10 rating, and third-party test reports are provided to project requirements — testing requires sample submission and involves lead time and cost. If your project needs it, say so at the quotation stage and we will arrange it accordingly.

Is the price much higher than a standard enclosure?

The structural differences are door stiffening ribs, a recessed lock, internal pin hinges and tamper-resistant fasteners, which puts a same-size unit one cost tier above a standard enclosure. There is no need for IK10 in a closed electrical room with no public access — spend the money where it counts.

Can the viewing window be glass?

Viewing windows on an IK10 cabinet use PC (polycarbonate), not glass — glass cannot reach the required impact rating on its own and would be the weak point in an otherwise IK10 enclosure.

If it gets dented, can it be repaired?

The door stiffening ribs absorb most of the impact, and standard parts (door, lock, hinges) can be replaced individually — that is the value of the "door opens after impact" design: replace the damaged part, leave the enclosure alone.
