Floor-standing enclosures

A proper base is what holds a heavy cabinet upright

The floor-standing cabinet is the platform for heavy-duty control and power distribution: width 600–1200 mm, height 1600–2200 mm, with a 100 mm channel steel base at the bottom (200 mm optional). Level with anchor bolts, then grout or bolt directly with expansion anchors. Front and rear doors, removable side panels — when joining a cabinet row, remove the side panels and bolt the cabinets together. Frame load capacity ≤500 kg — large transformers and large breakers sit directly on the cabinet floor; no heavy components hang on the doors. This page covers the empty enclosure specification. Build details

Systems have been in service for decades, and the failure points are always the same few: poor busbar contact, water ingress at the door seal, high temperature rise in the correction cabinet, and mis-phased outgoing feeders. The six hard rules below are written for exactly these points — every cabinet can be traced to them.

Channel steel base

Level the cabinet first, then install components

Level the four corners of the 100 mm channel steel base with M12 leveling feet, set the cabinet on the base, then weld or bolt it down — the base absorbs floor unevenness so the cabinet frame does not carry the stress.

Cabinet joining tolerance ≤3 mm

A cabinet row is one straight line

Beyond a single-cabinet diagonal tolerance of ≤2 mm, front-face flatness after joining is inspected row by row at ≤3 mm per 3 cabinets; even on-site leveling foot adjustment should not exceed this limit.

Removable side panels

No hidden gap at the joining line

At the joining position the side panel is fully removable and the joining bolts clamp the cabinets together, leaving no gap for dust between them; when a cabinet is used standalone, refitting the side panel restores full protection.

1.25× load test

Safety margin for heavy cabinets

Sampled units undergo a 1.25× rated static load test at the factory and pass only if the frame shows no permanent deformation — this test is what backs up the confidence to set large transformers on the cabinet.

Doors do not carry weight

Floor-standing cabinet doors do not carry heavy components by default; if a VFD or HMI must be door-mounted, add door support hinges based on weight and calculate separately — this is written into the delivery documents to prevent improvised mounting on site.

Lifting is a transport condition

The four top lifting rings are for shipping and lifting only; remove them after positioning to restore top plate strength — leaving them on long-term collects dust and compromises top sealing.

Six questions procurement and electrical engineers ask most

Does a wall-mounted cabinet still need a rear door?

Yes. The rear door is the service access point, so leave at least 600 mm of service clearance behind the cabinet when it is installed against a wall. If space is truly tight, choose a true single-side-access wall-mount design with a sealed back — but make that clear at the selection stage.

Does the base need grouting?

In most workshops, leveling the base and anchoring it with expansion bolts is enough. Where vibrating equipment is present (air compressor rooms, pump rooms), we recommend secondary grouting to cast the base and floor as one piece.

Can you build to GGD dimensions?

Yes. GGD (800×600×2200 and other sizes), XL-21, and GCS / MNS frame configurations can all be built to catalog dimensions. Cutouts and frames are made to drawing; complete electrical assemblies are quoted separately as a full cabinet under the ② family.

How do you control the seams when a lineup exceeds 4 sections?

Beyond the ≤2 mm tolerance per single cabinet, we control joining in segments of 3 cabinets at ≤3 mm, and add end cabinets at both ends of the lineup to close it out. For extra-long lineups, we provide per-cabinet numbering and assembly sequence with the drawings.

Can an HMI be mounted on the door?

Small HMIs (under 10 in.) are fine, with a door-stay hinge. For larger screens or complete units mounted on the door, we recommend switching to a recessed mounting rail or an operator console configuration.

How is this different from a Rittal-style cabinet?

Rittal-style cabinets use a 9-fold profile frame and TS structure, which gives higher precision and a higher-end appearance at a higher price. For standard operating conditions, a welded-frame floor-standing cabinet offers better value.
