The operator console is where an operator stands for eight hours a day. Whether the panel angle falls naturally to hand, whether the screen height is easy to read, whether the pushbuttons are within reach, whether cable routing runs clean, and whether the unit deforms or rocks after long use — these directly determine how the console performs on site. A console looks simple, but getting it right comes down to ergonomics and structural strength: worktop angle, screen mounting, keyboard drawer, internal cable routing and body rigidity — none of them can be fudged.

03 — CRAFT

Build details

Systems have been in service for decades, and the failure points are always the same few: poor busbar contact, water ingress at the door seal, high temperature rise in the correction cabinet, and mis-phased outgoing feeders. The six hard rules below are written for exactly these points — every cabinet can be traced to them.

8–15°

Ergonomic desktop angle

Desktop tilts 8–15°, so operators stay comfortable through long standing shifts and view the screen without bending their necks. Get the angle wrong and it's a day of neck and wrist strain.

Reinforcing ribs

Structure holds its shape long-term

The console body is reinforced with ribs, so it stays rigid under sustained loads and frequent operation. The worst failure mode for an operator console is a desktop that sags after two years.

Separate channels

Power and signal wiring kept apart

Internal cable routing channels and wire ducts keep power and signal wiring separated. Run screen signal cables alongside power cables and the screen flickers.

Screen

Adjustable screen mounting angle

The screen mounting angle can be adjusted to suit the operator's line of sight. Monitoring staff sit for hours at a time — get the screen height and angle slightly wrong and fatigue sets in.

Drawer

Slide-rail keyboard drawer

The keyboard drawer runs on slide rails for smooth travel. Get this detail wrong and the operator feels it every time they pull the drawer open.

Custom build

Cutouts and dimensions to drawing

Countertop dimensions, screen cutouts, pushbutton layout and color are all built to drawing. Operator consoles are almost always custom builds — standard parts don't line up.

Six questions procurement and electrical engineers ask most

Can the console take a touchscreen?

Yes. The countertop is cut and the screen embedded to its dimensions, with the angle set to the operator's line of sight. Touchscreens and monitors both work — send us the screen sizes and quantities and we'll match the cutouts.

Can you build multi-position consoles?

Yes. Multi-position units are joined for a central control room. Each position has its own panel, the frame is shared, and cable routing is managed centrally.

How are the panel pushbuttons laid out?

Laid out to your operating requirements — pushbuttons, indicator lights, meters and selector switches can all be fitted. Send us the operating functions and component list and we'll lay out the panel.

Will the frame deform over time?

We use bent and welded construction with reinforcing ribs, so it holds up under long-term load without deforming. This is the fundamental difference between an operator console and an ordinary office desk — it has to take frequent operation and sustained load.

Can PLCs or relays be mounted inside?

Yes. PLCs, relays and terminal blocks mount inside the frame, with separate cable routing channels. That makes the console a control cabinet with an operator panel.

What do you need for a quote?

Console type (single / dual / multi-position), screen configuration, panel component list, dimensions and color requirements, and whether electricals are included. Drawings are best.
