How to Read Distribution Box Model Codes
PZ30 / XL / JP / Power Cabinet Prefixes Explained

A distribution box model number is a string of letters and digits — once you can read it, you know what cabinet you are looking at. This article breaks down PZ30, XL-21, JP, GGD, GCS, MNS and othermainstream model codes, with a model comparison table. Zhejiang Golden Unicorn produces 5,800+ assembled cabinets per year.MOQ 1 unit · build to drawing.

1. Distribution Box Model Naming Rules (the prefix defines the cabinet type)

A domestic distribution box model number = cabinet type prefix + design sequence number + specification. The prefix defines the cabinet type: PZ30 = terminal combination apparatus, XL = power distribution cabinet, GGD = fixed low-voltage cabinet, JP = integrated distribution box.

3. PZ30 or XL-21 — how to choose? (Residential vs. workshop)

Selection

PZ30 = Residential / office final distribution(≤ 63A, modular miniature circuit breakers); XL-21 = Workshop power distribution(≤ 630A, molded case circuit breakers). Choose PZ30 for residential, XL-21 for workshops — do not mix them.

4. What is a JP cabinet? (integrated distribution box)

JP cabinet = metering + power factor correction + distributionthree-in-one, standard equipment for rural grid distribution areas. It contains a kWh meter, current transformers, capacitor compensation and outgoing circuit breakers, and is installed outdoors on a floor-mounted base. Zhejiang Golden Unicorn produces 500+ JP cabinets per year.

5. Three questions to ask when selecting (power / circuits / environment)

  1. How much power— determines the incoming switch and busbar rating
  2. How many circuits— determines the number of outgoing circuit breakers and the enclosure size
  3. Indoor or outdoor— determines the ingress protection (IP) rating: IP54 / IP65

FAQ FAQ

What is a PZ30 distribution box?

A terminal modular distribution box for residential / office final distribution, ≤ 63A, fitted with miniature circuit breakers.

What is the difference between XL-21 and GGD?

XL-21 is a power distribution cabinet (workshop distribution, ≤ 630A); GGD is a low-voltage main cabinet (distribution room, ≤ 2000A) with higher capacity.

Can a JP cabinet be used indoors?

JP cabinets are designed for outdoor distribution areas. They can be used indoors, but the IP rating is wasted — for indoor use, choose GGD or XL-21.

What do the numbers in the model suffix mean?

Usually a design sequence number or specification code — for example, GGD-2 indicates the second design variant. Check the manufacturer's catalog for details.
