2. How do you wire the "one duty, one standby" fire pump setup? Standard 4-component + interlock

Typical 1 duty + 1 standby scheme for a fire pump panel:

  1. Main pump circuit: breaker (QF1) → contactor (KM1) → thermal overload relay (FR1) → motor 1
  2. Standby pump circuit: breaker (QF2) → contactor (KM2) → thermal overload relay (FR2) → motor 2
  3. Interlock: mechanical interlock between KM1 and KM2 (prevents simultaneous start)
  4. Emergency mechanical start: a mechanical emergency start/stop button wired in parallel next to each contactor, bypassing the PLC

Does a fire pump control panel require CCCF certification?

The fire pump panel itselfdoes not require mandatory CCCF certification; however, the fire pump does require CCCF certification. How is the 30 s fire pump start time tested?

On-site fire acceptance test: ① simulate a fire alarm signal ② start the fire pump ③ use a stopwatch to measure the total time from signal trigger to water discharge.Must be ≤ 30 s(GB 50974, Clause 11.0.3). Golden Unicorn runs a simulated test before shipment and issues a test report.

Will mechanical emergency start and automatic start conflict?

No, but they must be interlocked. Mechanical emergency start wires directly to the contactor coil; automatic start controls the contactor through the PLC. The two arein parallel, so the contactor pulls in when either path is energized. The mechanical emergency start button must havemechanical latching, staying engaged when pressed and resetting by rotation, to prevent accidental operation.

Must the inspection cycle run every day?

No, once a week is sufficient(GB 50974, Clause 11.0.18). During inspection, the main / standby pumps each run at low speed for 30 s, with no water supply interruption and no impact on fire protection function. However, during inspection,any fire alarm signal must immediately stop the inspection cycleand switch to fire mode.

What IP rating does a fire pump panel need?
