The Story Behind GU ELECTRIC
A craft in power distribution, passed down through two generations over thirty years. This is where it came from.
Thirty Years Behind the Counter
In the 1990s, Liushi in Wenzhou was known as China's "Capital of Electrical Products." On a single street, nearly every household talked about electricity and worked in it. Our story began on that crowded, restless ground, in one family that built distribution equipment.
Cai Baosheng and Huang Lingying left Liushi with that craft and headed north to Xiaoshan, Hangzhou. A small storefront on Xihe Road was their first stop; later they moved into Xiaoshan Commercial City, where the shop front carried the name "Jinma Electrical Controls." The business then was simple — selling goods, earning reputation.
From the Counter into the Workshop
Xiaoshan's electromechanical market grew year by year, and China's manufacturing sector was waking up. As the stores multiplied, the couple made a heavier decision: stop only selling other people's cabinets, and build their own.
On Tonghui Road, at the northern foot of Xiaoran Mountain, a low-voltage assembly plant went up. Sheet steel came in, cabinets went out, and the large enterprise groups and real estate developers of Xiaoshan and Binjiang were the first to watch them turn drawings into cabinets. The craft thickened layer by layer over those years: how to nest parts to save material, how to route wiring so it doesn't fight itself, how to make a cabinet stand steady for ten years in a damp pump room — no one taught them; it came from doing it over and over, revising, and reworking.
The Years the Machines Went Quiet
Around 2015 the wind shifted. Construction business was no longer what it had been, the founders were getting older, and the assembly plant's machines stopped one by one.
But the workshop was never sold, the drawings were never thrown away, and the tools stayed where they had always been. Thirty years of accumulation — the plant, the equipment, the feel for the work, and the names of those old customers — were left intact.
A craft passed through two generations hands over more than a business. It hands over a standard.
2019: Starting the Machines Again
In 2019, their son Cai Zhihai set aside a career as a professional manager and returned to that workshop. He did not start from scratch; he took over the roof, the equipment, and the craft his parents had left him, and gave the family business a new name —GU ELECTRIC, Golden Unicorn: the qilin is the mythical creature that symbolizes good fortune and benevolence in Chinese culture, and GU ELECTRIC grew out of that.
In March 2020 the company was registered and the machines started turning again. This time the direction was clearer: not to be big and broad, but to go deep on one thing — electrical control cabinets — and serve the equipment manufacturers who treat their machines as their lifeblood.

From the streets of Liushi to the workshop in Tonglu, from the tape measure in our parents' hands to today's laser cutting and final inspection, the tools have changed with a generation. What has not changed is the line pressed into our hearts:

- 1990s
From Liushi to Xiaoshan · The Starting Point
Cai Baosheng and Huang Lingying moved from Liushi, Wenzhou — China's "Electrical Appliance Capital" — to Xiaoshan, Hangzhou to start their business, opening their first hardware store on Xihe Road, selling hardware, electrical, and chemical products.

Shop in Front, Factory in Back · Low-Voltage Assemblies
As the Xiaoshan electromechanical market grew and Chinese manufacturing expanded rapidly, the affiliated company opened additional stores and built its own low-voltage switchgear assembly plant at the northern foot of Xiaoran Mountain on Tonghui Road, Xiaoshan, serving large enterprise groups and real estate developers across Xiaoshan and Binjiang.

Relocation to Tonglu
Due to industrial relocation policies, the assembly plant was rebuilt in Tonglu County, Hangzhou, where land and factory buildings were purchased in the Fengchuan Industrial Zone and production was established.

Legacy and Consolidation
As conditions in the construction business changed and the founding couple's capacity became limited, the assembly plant gradually wound down; three decades of manufacturing experience, factory buildings, and equipment were retained.
- 2019–2020
Zhejiang Golden Unicorn Established
Their son, Cai Zhihai, left his career as a professional manager to start his own business, focusing on serving equipment manufacturers. He took over the Tonglu factory and founded Zhejiang Golden Unicorn Electrical Technology (Golden Unicorn Electric, or GU ELECTRIC). The company was registered in March 2020, and control cabinet operations officially began.
